Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Alhamdulillah, Canada Bangladesh Muslim Community (CBMC) will be organizing its 5th annual blood donor clinic
in conjunction with Masjid Bilal on Saturday October 19th 2019.

In the Holy Quran Allah SWT advised “If anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind”. (5:32).
Insha’Allah this will be an opportunity to all of us to gain enormous baraka by donating blood and may also be saving a life.
CBMC is making an appeal to all our community members to seize this opportunity and donate blood.

Dear CBMC,

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. Hope you all are having a blessed Ramadan.

In the past, you supported the Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital in Bangladesh. In this blessed month, I am asking your support again for the poor cancer patients in Bangladesh. There are 1.2 million cancer patients in the country at any given time and more than 0.1 million death every year. For over 160 million people, we have 500 beds for cancer patients in public hospitals and 200 cancer specialists in total in the country.

The Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital is working to provide cancer treatment to the poor patients who otherwise have no access to the expensive treatment. At present, 250 beds have been commissioned and will go up to 500 beds. On a daily average, 160 patients are now receiving radiotherapy, 45 patients chemotherapy, and nearly 100 are admitted as an in-patient. In the last year, 3,484 cancer patients got treatment from Jakat money (62,80,807 BDT).

As the hospital’s representative in Canada, I will facilitate your donation to the hospital, 100% of your donation will be given to the hospital. You will be provided a receipt and acknowledgment e-mail from the hospital administration. You may contribute via e-transfer, cash, or cheque.

In this month of Ramadan and beyond, I urge you to open your heart and give hope to the cancer patients in Bangladesh.
Wish you all blessed Ramadan and a blissful Eid-ul-Fitr.

Canada Bangladesh Muslim Community’s (CBMC) Orphan Students Scholarship Program in Partnership with Human Concern International (HCI)

Dear all,

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

All praises are for our creator Allah SWT.

CBMC executive committee is humbled to let you know that on March 14, 2019, an award ceremony of first installment of the scholarship was held at SUROVI’s own premises in Dhanmondi. A total of 100 orphan students received 10, 000 (BDT) each as first installment for their education and upbringing expenses. The rest of the 20,000 (BDT) would be given in two installments subject to continuation of education and satisfactory performance.

Interesing to note, in 2018, CBMC gave scholarship to 51 students; while in 2019, CBMC gave 100 scholarships (61 girls and 39 boys).

From CBMC, Mustafa Chowdhury, President, Yakub Ali (former High Commissioner to Canada), Tahera Yakub, Quazi Tareque Ahmed (CBMC team member in Dhaka) and Shirin Zaman were present as special guests; while Zamil Zaman, Vice President CBMC also represented HCI as its Treasurer. Asad Chowdhury (renowned poet of Bangladesh) and his wife Sahana Chowdhury were there to grace the occasion. Abu Taher, Executive Director, SUROVI spoke on behalf SUROVI.

It was a joyous occasion and everyone was overwhelmed to see how the students reacted to receiving scholarships coming all the way from Canadians. Many were speechless. Amidst joy and delight, the ceremony ended with the hope that CBMC and HCI will continue to find resources to sustain the Scholarship Program.

We are providing some pictures of the ceremony here and the whole ceremony will be available at CBMC’s Facebook (link) and webpage (link).

CBMC and HCI is looking forward to your continuing support.
