Canada Bangladesh Muslim Community’s (CBMC) Orphan Students Scholarship Program in Partnership with Human Concern International (HCI)

CBMC executive committee is humbled to let you know that on March 14, 2019, an award ceremony of first installment of the scholarship was held at SUROVI’s own premises in Dhanmondi. A total of 100 orphan students received 10, 000 (BDT) each as first installment for their education and upbringing expenses. The rest of the 20,000 (BDT) would be given in two installments subject to continuation of education and satisfactory performance.
Interesing to note, in 2018, CBMC gave scholarship to 51 students; while in 2019, CBMC gave 100 scholarships (61 girls and 39 boys).
From CBMC, Mustafa Chowdhury, President, Yakub Ali (former High Commissioner to Canada), Tahera Yakub, Quazi Tareque Ahmed (CBMC team member in Dhaka) and Shirin Zaman were present as special guests; while Zamil Zaman, Vice President CBMC also represented HCI as its Treasurer. Asad Chowdhury (renowned poet of Bangladesh) and his wife Sahana Chowdhury were there to grace the occasion. Abu Taher, Executive Director, SUROVI spoke on behalf SUROVI.
It was a joyous occasion and everyone was overwhelmed to see how the students reacted to receiving scholarships coming all the way from Canadians. Many were speechless. Amidst joy and delight, the ceremony ended with the hope that CBMC and HCI will continue to find resources to sustain the Scholarship Program.
